Exporting tracks for mixing and mastering...

As a mixing engineer, I get a lot of questions in regards to how to properly send files for mixing. While I do get a lot of files that were done properly and exported ready to mix, I get a ton of files that were incorrectly exported and just simply won't work for mixing.

I threw together a quick screenshot video for you to check out, in hopes that it gives you a visual on how to properly export your tracks.

We're using Logic Pro, so the platform you're using may be different, however, the idea is the same. Essentially, when you have properly exported tracks for mixing, they should all be the SAME length, time, and most often than not, same file size. For example, a song that is 3:30 seconds long will have however many individual tracks, all 3 minutes and 30 seconds long. In the same vein, each track will most likely end up the same file size (example, there are 13 total tracks, and all are 42.2MB each).

If there are 13 tracks, track 1 is 759KB, 2 is 42.2MB, 3 is 1.2MB and so on, these files will not work for mixing.

Hope this helps!
