Retro-mania

Quite the delay in posts I would say! However, I can graciously follow that statement by saying that we've been hard at work in the studio, laying down guitar tracks, bass tracks, piano tracks, and we've seen a lot of Tate Music Group recording artists come through our studios in the last month! Actually, everyday for the last month...

It is always a great honor to see musical tracks come to life with vocals, or to see the face of one of our artists once we've finished the last lyric of the last song on the last day of their vocal session. It truly is a treat... its at that moment that they feel accomplished, that even I, as their producer, feel like we've teamed up together and accomplished something great!

This last week was a great one for me. Earlier this year, artist Robin Liner and her family made the trip out to our Oklahoma City studios to record vocals on her album. Now bragging on Robin, she is a Tate Music Group recording artist with an upcoming release called "Serenading Jesus". Her album was one of my absolute favorite collaborations, and I think is going to be a great product! She is a Tate Publishing Author, with a children's book release scheduled for early next year. Worship Leader, mother of 6 and teacher...

Well, while she was out recording, her 3 sons showed me some of their music and I told our TMG Acquisitions reps that we need to get these kids on. Understand that when I say kids, they are only 5 years younger than me, but their music is something far beyond their years.

So this past week, it all came full circle and in walked TMG recording artists "Yesterday's Brew" (Stefan, Michaiah, and Ethan Liner). A talented group of teenagers that I would dare say have an upper hand in the "retro-pop" genre.

I'm a huge Beatles fan... as a musician, a part of you owes a lot to The Beatles or John Lennon or Paul McCartney. It's just what musicians do... But it wasn't until I was in college that I truly appreciated what artists like The Beatles or America or any of the music from the 50s, 60s and 70s have done for music, and the music industry as a whole.

And then to see this group of teenagers that are great songwriters and know what it is to write catchy hooks and melodies... plus, they let me go a little crazy and come up with some pretty wild ideas that worked perfectly for this album.

So keep your eyes peeled for their new release coming early next year... definitely an entertaining group that will have you singing their songs all week... trust me. I can't stop thinking or humming their songs.

It was a great week for all... we all walked away feeling like we gave 110% and that this is going to be more than just a CD for the sake of CDs in a CD collection.

Some other talent has been in the studio over the course of the last month! There is a lot of talent here at Tate Music Group and I'm excited to say I get to be a part of it all.
